According to Dr. Emilio Carralero Elías, Head of the Department of Medical Assistance in the General Directorate of Public Health of the territory, the day is part of a country strategy in view of the increase of infants with congenital heart diseases in recent years.
A similar campaign was the focus of health professionals' work in 2023, which allowed them to detect and offer timely follow-up to detected alterations.
Starting this January 28 and until February 19, the Healthy Heart Campaign is taking place throughout the province of Holguín, which consists of carrying out a series of tests on almost six thousand children under one year of age in the territory to promptly determine those cases with congenital heart disease.
Currently, the incidence of congenital heart disease in the province of Holguín is around 15 cases per thousand live births.
