Maintaining zero tolerance for drugs is part of a national strategy that unites efforts and opens doors of hope and love against addiction. “The objective was met, and I think the group dynamic we provided to the students served to learn about the effects of gateway drugs and how to deal with potential illnesses,” stated Renato Aguilera Santisteban, a specialist in disease promotion and prevention in the area. “The meeting opens the door to everyday problems and offers us solutions, help through the Women and Family Guidance Center or through the services provided in the smoking cessation clinics.”

The talk given by Lieutenant Lisandra Rodríguez Labrada, the municipality's Juvenile Prevention Officer, was undoubtedly motivating. Among other topics, she discussed traditional and newer substances that, like the well-known “Chemical,” trap young people and adolescents.

Psychologists, educators, and social workers shared anecdotes and testimonies of patients who, by following supposed friends or challenging the unknown, fell into the trap of drug addiction.

Socio-educational interventions, neighborhood debates, and discussions are part of the program of activities that seek to strengthen alliances and join forces to combat this scourge, which today requires better family support and multi-sectoral work.
