In the town of La Alegría, approximately one kilometer from Buenaventura, head of the Municipality of Calixto García, is the “Fermín Rodríguez Díaz” Educational Institution, a center with comprehensive results for several years and that in the current school period welcomes students belonging to Early Childhood Education (Preschool) and Primary Education (first to sixth) attended by an experienced staff of workers, both teachers and support.
Odalis Pereda Tejeda has been the director of this center for several years and among her many activities, the day I visited the institution, she was attending a visit by the Methodological Team of the General Directorate of Education in the territory and a meeting with mothers of the students of the second grade, kindly agreed to my request to initially talk about the progress of the 2023/2024 School Year in the six weeks that have passed.
“…We managed to start this course with one hundred percent teaching coverage, which has allowed us for the Teaching-Educational Process to develop to date as planned. Regarding school attendance, the Dengue outbreak that affected the community where the school is located has had an impact, as well as Acute Respiratory Infections, especially in Preschool and First Grade. On the other hand, we are training in the projects that includes the III Improvement of the National Education System, which requires effort on the part of all teachers to be able to implement it in the center…”

During my stay at the “Fermín Rodríguez Díaz” center, Sahara Valdés Alarcón, at the head of the Methodological Team of the General Directorate of Education in our territory, who visited the institution for several days, conducted training for the mothers of the students of the second degree with the objective of training them in the different projects of the III Improvement of the National Education System and increasing the quality of the Educational Teaching Process.
