Neither the iron blockade with its brutal economic suffocation has limited the availability of medical resources to carry out health programs that guarantee a happy childhood.
Thus, with pleasure, families from the town of Buenaventura in the municipality of Calixto García appreciate the protection of their children through vaccination campaigns, which, like the flu campaign, have the purpose of preventing acute respiratory infections, specifically those caused by the seasonal influenza infection of the southern hemisphere.
That is why Yurisleidis Pérez Pérez from the San Lorenzo neighborhood shows gratitude for the efforts of a besieged country that never puts aside its achievements. "Very grateful because my little Luis Adrián, barely one year old, will be safer from respiratory infections and although perhaps it is common for us, benefits like these do not exist in all corners of the world."
For the young mother Mirley Pérez, guaranteeing the quality of life of her girl Sheila María is a priority, which is why she did not hesitate to go so that she can be immunized. “My daughter is 5 years old and suffers from asthma, so it is vital that she is protected from diseases like these that put everyone under stress.”
And if vaccination is a reason for joy for family members and children, for the medical personnel who lead this work, it is of great satisfaction and responsibility.
This is confirmed by the experienced nurse Yanet Gómez Rubio in charge of the vaccination of the Buenaventura polyclinic. “The family comes here with their children and for all of us it is a shared joy because we know that all this translates into well-being and health.”
She said that this program has been carried out since last July 3, which will allow the protection of some 375 infants between the ages of 6 months and 1 year, 11 months and 29 days.
She emphasized that asthmatic children from two to five years of age will also benefit, meanwhile it is planned to extend the flu vaccine to another segment of the child population from two to five years.
