The homeland history woven by the hand of its heroes is never forgotten, which is why dozens of Calixteños gathered this morning to pay tribute to two of its greatest figures: Antonio Maceo y Grajales as well as Ernesto Guevara de la Serna on a date in that due to those coincidences of life they would be 178 and 95 years old respectively.

The ceremony in which 93 third grade pioneers received from local authorities and family members the new attribute that now makes them José Martí pioneers was emotional.
For mother Yadira Almaguer Velázquez, accompanying her daughter in this activity is cause for joy. "Very happy and happy because I also had the chance that my eldest son was the one to represent the family in this ceremony in which we celebrated the advances of our little ones and that we enjoyed their growth in a pioneering organization of which we have fond memories" .
But the treat did not stop there, as a prize for academic results, students like Karla Leyva Osorio deserved the status of June 14. "Very happy that this award is given to me and more so on a date like this in which it should help us to remain faithful to the legacy of both heroes."
With similar emotions, David Estrabao Rodríguez, an eleventh grade student at the Armando Valle Pre-University Institute, shared his joy at becoming a member of the Union of Young Communists (UJC). "Happy to join the vanguard of youth and in each of us there is a part of Ché with his desire to be useful, a patriot and also Maceo's intransigence will never be forgotten."
