Wilberto Antonio García is a hard-working and enterprising young man who defies the hot days of August and everything that stands in his way to get the brickworks of the Basic Business Unit (UEB) of the Holguín Construction Company “Domus” located in the Las Mantecas neighborhood up and running at full speed.

“It is difficult, it is a labor of strength and in my case I have the task of firing the kiln, which requires greater responsibility, arriving here at 6 am and staying until 12 and more if necessary to guarantee the quality of the process.”

“Now we are unloading the kiln and preparing to load it again, as you can see here there is no time to lose because we have a plan of 25 thousand bricks per month and that pledged word is not in vain,” he says while helping to transport part of the production that comes out of the efficient kiln, the only one of its kind in the province and which allows the people of Calixto to maintain results. “It allows us to produce more than 8 thousand bricks, they burn quite well, we have already tested it on two occasions and it is good.”

In the effort to produce construction materials from the endogenous, he is accompanied by another 3 workers, aware that their mission is essential to respond to the country's priorities.

Disposition, commitment, desire to do are not a slogan but rather distinctive features of a collective composed in its vast majority of young people who, like Miguel Ernesto Espinosa Reyes, know how to take advantage of the trade that marks their life. “Making bricks has its complexities, it is rigorous, with long tasks, physical effort, but I like it and I feel good. I have been here for 6 months, but the boys have welcomed me very well and the priority is the work.”

“Right now,” says the young man: “I am inside the kiln with a lot of dust, but producing to complete the task.”

The production of bricks requires a long process and is not at all easy, warns the young Espinosa Reyes. “Here we do almost everything, such as cutting bricks, filling the kiln, the piza, the pizón of bricks, which although they are complex routines you get used to and manage to master.”

With this approach and an eye on producing and producing, the workers at the Domus brickyard are committed to quality and higher yields, achievements that are recognized by Frank Espinosa Vera, Director of the Ueb. “There really are results and this is demonstrated by the fulfillment of the plans even in the midst of fuel limitations for the transport of firewood, the completion of the roof of the ship, an issue that has not been resolved today, but work is being done to maintain achievements and seek diversity in production such as the so-called panetelas that we plan to begin in September.”

The director added that the construction of houses in the current context has not been possible for his entity, however, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Tejar collective, the UEB is beginning to make improvements that will benefit the rest of the workers today. “Little by little we have come out of the losses that we have dragged month after month and we are preparing to become efficient and in this the Tejar workers have the greatest recognition, who by dint of perseverance have shown that YES IT IS POSSIBLE and willingness to continue towards new ventures.
