In line with encouraging the efficient use of resources, the Calixto Garcías municipality trade union movement is taking center stage these days and is motivating reflection.

In this regard, Naida Giraldo Quesada, Secretary of the Cuban Workers' Union (CTC) in the Holguin municipality of Calixto García, said: “The CTC and its unions have formed a contingent with their activists with the objective of reducing energy consumption. So far, there are 30 members who, during peak hours from 11 am to 1 pm, visit the work centers and socialize the importance of making rational use of what we have.”

This is, said the labor leader: “A rich person-to-person exchange to evaluate how work is being done to achieve energy savings and, above all, to address what else can be done in order to respond to a task that belongs to all of us. Therefore, acting accordingly to materialize it depends in part on the working masses that are offering a response today.”

However, according to Elianet Pérez Andino, member of the CTC Secretariat, oversights have been detected that have been solved in a timely manner: “For example, lights that are turned on unnecessarily, computers, fans in warehouses, commerce units, markets and the Post Office, among others, and I am of the opinion that this contribution from the union activism itself has been positive and is appreciated because we dialogue, we reflect and the problem is transformed and that is the best lesson.”

The contingent is made up of, among others, activists from the Electric Company, Education, Labor and Social Security, Communal, Commerce and Culture, the latter with one of the most active members, Pedro Rodríguez, who expressed commitment and satisfaction in taking on the task. “It is a modest contribution but it is appreciated because when we arrive at a work center and collaborate by transforming the detected problem, there is the fruit of our work and we will continue to be active because saving is for everyone.”

That is why it is no coincidence to find these Calixteños touring the streets of Buenaventura with exhortations and messages that multiply the good practices that benefit us all.
