A simple but emotional tribute took place in Buenaventura on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the death of Major General Calixto García Iñiguez.
Students, young people and workers came to the monument that honors his memory in Buenaventura and, like every December 11, praise and evoke the famous Holguín patriot.
In the words of Pedro Bruzón Sosa, Historian of the municipality, he highlighted the patriotic values of García Iñiguez. "The story includes his mother's prediction that his son was going to become a soldier; they say that the grandfather who had come from Venezuela instilled patriotic values in him and so did an aunt."
Likewise, Bruzón Sosa reviewed part of his journey through Calixteño lands. “The first presence of Calixto García in our territory dates back to 1873 where he attacked “El Martillo” at that time it was a small town fortified by the Spanish, after Santa Inés he traveled through the area of San Agustín and waited in what is Santa María of Ocujal for the fight of Copo del Chato.”
During the tribute to Calixto García, the Union of Young Communists (UJC) cards were presented to students from the Armando Valle López Pre-University School in Buenaventura.
Also from art came the tribute in verses from local artists.
