Remembering local history is treasuring our roots and evoking the stamp of patriots who gave everything for the revolutionary cause, which is why a representation of young people from Calixteños arrived today at the tarja located in the Itabos neighborhood to remember the beginning of the War little girl.
This is confirmed by Miguel González Pupo, First Secretary of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) in Calixteño territory. "Today is a very special day for Calixteños, which is why the new generation gathered in this emblematic neighborhood to remember this date, and more than that, to reaffirm that we are continuity thanks to a history of struggle that was forged on local soil."
In a brief but interesting approach to the events of that August 24, 1879, the historian of the municipality, Pedro Bruzón Sosa highlighted the benefits of the selected site as the first uprising of the Chiquita War in the country.
Through poetry and oratory, the leadership of heroes such as Belisario Grave de Peralta, Cornelio Rojas, the commanders Remigio Almaguer and Luis Hechavarría, among others, was evoked, and the pronouncement of the Cry of "Independence or Death" was highlighted.
At the end of the meeting, the young people accompanied by workers from various organizations went to the Cruce de Mir organoponic to offer their contribution there, among them Juan Carlos Ocampo, representative of the Student Federation of Secondary Education (Feem) at the Urbano Armando Pre-University Institute Lopez de Buenaventura Valley. “We have collaborated in cleaning the chambers, cutting okra plants and that grain of sand is always valuable in food production.”
