Residents of the municipality of Calixto García continue preparing to face the powerful Hurricane Melissa, now a Category 5 storm.

“The municipality has been preparing, and conditions are in place in all defense zones. There is a group of comrades responsible for preserving, above all, people's lives. That is the top priority, along with protecting the economy, for the Defense Council.”
The President of the Municipal Defense Council and First Secretary of the Party in the territory also explained that all defense zones are activated and the necessary conditions have been created in the evacuation centers.
“Each defense zone has a group of comrades in charge. Evacuation centers are planned, with all necessary provisions: hygiene, food, medical assistance, transportation, and pregnant women, people with disabilities, or those with specific needs are going to the best center, the Pioneer Camp.”
Leonardo Batista Pupo, president of the Municipal Defense Council, also stated that the sale of products to the population has been guaranteed.
“Since Saturday, a good fair has been held so that the residents of Calixto could purchase the most necessary products. Dried sweets and soups are being prepared in several food establishments, and root vegetables are being sold at the farmers market and other locations.”
He added, “Each defense zone has the authority to guarantee supplies to the population and to ensure the sale of products, thus guaranteeing better service to the people.”
