José Norberto Rodríguez Silvera, a native of the town of Mir, became a farmer a few years ago by assuming three caballerias of land in usufruct, located in the town of Santa Rita, to where he moved his new home, in the company of his wife and children. The farm, six kilometers from his birthplace, is basically devoted to cattle raising.
Just a few hours ago, this man had the opportunity to fulfill a promise that was made in silence, the same day that his father died, after several days of admission to the Nicodemus Regalado hospital in Buenaventura. "My father always had gestures like this one that I just did, I learned it from him, we only had two little cows, but if there was a sick neighbor he would give him a liter of milk, and I would call him dad but if those people have men in the house, and he told me, son when you grow up you will understand the truth behind the saying of do well and don't look at who ".
They are memories of José Norberto's childhood, when he gave the first bovine specimen that he was authorized to slaughter to hospitalized patients and workers: "today is a day of joy, because I do not forget that two days before my father died, the one who was the director of this center, Dr. Ramiro Figueroa, put his arm around my shoulder and said, today we are going to give your father a good beef broth that will improve him, you'll see, And it was when I heard those profound words that I made the promise to myself, luckily it didn't take long to fulfill it."
For those who think that all is lost, the action of this humble rancher from Mireño is a strong blow to the chin of the desperate and a lack of optimism. It is also a lofty gesture of altruism, selflessness, and humanism.
A simple mathematical operation allows us to know that if this farmer had sold to the trading company, for example, and at a relatively modest price, the amount of meat given to the aforementioned hospital facility, he would have put more than sixty thousand pesos in his pockets.
At the time of delivery of the precious product, executives from the Government and Agriculture in the municipality were present, as well as part of the board of directors of the hospital facility, headed by its director, Dr. Yaneisys Leyva Quevedo, who excitedly expressed: " We appreciate the gesture of this farmer, they are very beautiful actions in very difficult times, and it is good that all those who can do works of this type do them, because all of this contributes to improving the health of patients, and that today they can be people you don't know but tomorrow a family member, a loved one, may be here, we are very grateful for attitudes like this, disinterested, because what we want is for patients to leave the institution with the best possible recovery”.
With the rains of May, a blessed gift from Mother Nature, altruistic gifts also arrive, like the one in which she starred a few hours ago, this Calixteño of firm word and action, a symbol of perpetual love.
