A fierce battle against the mosquito is underway in the Holguín municipality of Calixto García. Public health professionals, along with workers from other entities, are reinforcing community efforts that are gradually eliminating the breeding grounds of this dangerous vector.

While the highest incidences are currently affecting residents of the Mir health district, the town of Buenaventura is not immune to arboviruses.

This was highlighted by Leonardo Cruz Arauz, Director of the Municipal Hygiene Unit in this territory, during a working meeting of the temporary group chaired by Romny Pérez Rojas, the Municipal Intendant.

"In the case of Mir," he explained, "the actions have focused on conducting targeted screenings, fumigation, and strengthening work teams to reach every home where possible infections are currently being reported, starting with community outreach."

He further pointed out that it is a complex task given the limitations of the specialized force; however, the measures are progressing gradually.

Despite the increase in fever cases and the spread of diseases, Cruz Arauz emphasized that Buenaventura has not yet reached its peak incidence.

Sustained work has been carried out in the municipal seat, with an emphasis on the Nuevo, Jardín, and Centro Escolar neighborhoods, but it is still necessary to continue the multisectoral effort to promote community hygiene.

In this regard, directors of Community Services, Water and Sewerage, Education, among others, expressed the actions their respective entities are taking to collaborate on this complex but essential task.
