Joselín Acosta Segura más de cuarenta años dedicados a la cultura calixteña.The Culture Day in this municipality of Calixto García has come to an end, leaving many traces of authenticity in the multiple activities carried out. This forty-first version began last Thursday with a colorful parade along Patricio Lumumba Street, with culminating point in the Plaza de la Juventud, where among songs and poetry it was officially inaugurated, with the presence of Leonardo Batista Pupo, first Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Party and Mayor Ronny Pérez Rojas, among other party and government leaders, in the territory.

The revelry, based in the town of Buenaventura and surrounding neighborhoods, was dedicated to the one hundred and ten years of artistic life of the Ajo family, to the seventy years since the death of the writer Emilio Ballagas, and to the work of the minstrel Joselín Acosta.

Roberto Ajo Peña, grandson of Don Pepe Ajo, founder of the beautiful tradition of organ music in this part of the geography of the province of Holguín, receives the recognition of the people.

Roberto Ajo Peña, grandson of Don Pepe Ajo, founder of the beautiful tradition of organ music. The authenticity mentioned in the headline of this report was on display during the four days of contagious uproar, in all the demonstrations, starting with the dance activities, enlivened by groups from the territory, from the professionals of the Eastern Organ to several groups of popular music from different popular councils, something that multiplies the ego of our amateur artists.

Something similar happened with the plastic arts, which took center stage in the corridor of the Jesús Avilés Urbino House of Culture, with samples of different creation techniques, including saddlery, doll making, weaving, as well as work with fibers and feathers. .

The theater also had its own charm, the students of the instructors of this event put on stage much of what they had learned, although it is fair to note the presence on Saturday morning of a performance by the Alas Buenas Performing Arts Company, from the city of Holguín, which delighted those present at the aforementioned House of Culture, with educational performances by three comic artists. Unfortunately, this presentation lacked the necessary disclosure, which undoubtedly caused the venue to not be packed.

There was no shortage of recognitions at the Conference, and this idea was a good time because “honor to whom honor is due”, one of them, perhaps the most anticipated and applauded, to the bard of our municipality Joselín Acosta Segura, for forty years, always guitar on his shoulder, with his throat ready to offer with the greatest humility, what he knows best, the songs, especially those that are classic numbers of the Cuban pentagram.

Likewise, in the Rituals space, dedicated to remembering the 70th anniversary of the death of the writer Emilio Ballagas, the Literary Workshop of the same name was recognized for keeping his outstanding work alive. Also there, in the municipal library, Rosell Ramírez Mola, winner of the Poetry Contest “At the rhythm of the crank” was encouraged

Presentation of the book "Rituales de la culpa", by the Calixteño writer José Luis Laguarda.

As expected, the Municipal Concert Band also showed the virtuosity of its members, who with a well-balanced repertoire, denoted the maturity they have achieved in these decades of fruitful work, under the direction of a consecrated teacher like Abrahán Pérez Montes. of Oca.

There were dozens of meetings with the main art manifestations, so that hundreds of Calixteños could enjoy pleasant proposals, thought out and put into practice by a group of cultural workers from this municipality, who also deserve praise and applause.
