“When I moved to this house, to be near the hospital here in Buenaventura, I started planting some plantain and fongo bushes, and right away the neighbors began to tell me not to waste time that even the basarillo was not given here, but look, there are countless bananas and banana fruits that we have eaten ”, commented Héctor Peña Rodríguez at the beginning of the conversation.
Héctor, who has lived at the top of the Jardin distribution for some years, is a man who tends to obesity due to his ailments, however his way of speaking is very agile and he enjoys listening to him, especially when he talks about his work in the backyard of your home: "Believe it or not, here there are about twenty different plantations, including some very rare in this area such as pineapple and sesame."
For Carmen Rodríguez, her mother, everything is very clear: “Her loves for the sown fields were born with her childhood, there in Jagüeyes, it is something that occupies her all the time, look, that in this little courtyard she finds almost twenty different crops, it is something large, and the water they receive is from the clothes that are rinsed that the boy throws it all on, because he does not allow a single drop of water to be thrown away ”.
And Carmen is not wrong, because in addition to the crops mentioned, you can see cassava, sweet potato, yam, chili, garlic, tomato, peanut, knight bean, pumpkin, and various medicinal plants.
"Many neighbors have enjoyed some of these plantings, especially the plantain fruits that are very tasty and that provide us with snacks, so I am going to plant three or four more seedlings, so that there is always one that is ripening," he said. This laborious man, who despite his illnesses and the criteria of his neighbors is showing that passion begets beautiful things and that the earth, in order to produce it, only needs constant attention.
