A call to reverse the negative results of agriculture in the municipality of Calixto García made this Wednesday the first secretary of the Party in the province of Holguín Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez.

In an exchange with executives of the Calixteño agricultural sector, the political leader called for more food to be produced at a crucial moment for the country in the face of the tense economic situation generated by the pandemic and the resurgence of the imperialist blockade.

Calixtean agriculture shows unfavorable indicators in the production of milk and beef, in the sowing of animal feed, as well as in the process of contracting agricultural production for 2021.

Santiesteban Velázquez criticized that there are about 500 landholders still without contracting, which generates a production deficit for the new year below 4 thousand tons of food that undermines the effort to achieve food sovereignty.

Regarding the production of corn, with major defaults in several productive entities of the municipality, he emphasized that there was a lack of follow-up and exchange with the grain producers, as well as the support with resources to those who have shown better yields in previous stages.

Not everything is negative, said the party leader. There are good examples such as that of the CPA Guillermón Moncada, which overcomplies with the planting plan and the contribution of cow's milk, which shows that there are no reasons not to comply.

At the work meeting, held at the Calixto García Livestock Company, where the governor of the province Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez and authorities of the municipality were also present, they called to work more for the feeding of the people, the main challenge for agricultural producers from Holguin ahead of the new year.
