The Holguín Provincial Defense Council, along with its working groups and subgroups, was activated Tuesday to take all appropriate measures in the face of the threat of hurricane Irma, which according to the weather forecast may be affecting the territory in the coming hours.
At the first meeting of this structure, it was reported that everything indicates that the meteorological event will impact Holguín with heavy rains, winds equal to or greater than those of tropical storm and heavy sea all over the coast.
Luis Torres Iríbar, president of the Provincial Defense Council, said that the real impact of the event must be foreseen and to act accordingly and with rationality to safeguard the population and the assets of the economy.
The leader issued several provisions to counter damage from the cyclone. He insisted that protection measures should be reviewed in entities and agencies, maintaining hydrometeorological surveillance and control over the hygienic-epidemiological situation, protecting the means and products of agriculture and sugarcane production, reviewing the availability of food and transport for the evacuation, to attend to the maximum everything related to the production and the services, the supply of water to the population and to activate the neighborhood brigades of recovery, among others.
He urged the population to maintain a responsible attitude and to take all the precautions that are required for these cases, mainly in the zones of defense.
