In exclusive statements Fernández González remarked the growing enrollmen in the University of Holguin, which for the coming academic period exceeds 13 thousand students in the different modalities of study, about three thousand above previous years.

Ratified as one of the main challenges to continue working to raise the number of Doctors in Science and ensure the correct implementation of the new strategy of English language for the academic improvement of students and teachers.

The rehabilitation of the water and sanitary facilities of several of the student residence buildings and the rescue of the sports areas, now turned into colorful football fields, volleyball and Running track, were some of the results appreciated during the visit, said the deputy minister.

Reynaldo Velázquez, rector of the academic institution, stated in the report presented that starting next September 5 will begin with the new Plan of Studies "E" the specialties of Physical Culture, Management for Socio-Cultural Development, Tourism, as well as 24 degree courses in Education and the rest will do so in the course to come.

He emphasized the participation of students and teachers in significant tasks of the hygiene campaign and the creation of the contingent Oscar Lucero Moya, which will help to reverse the deficit of teachers in the basic and pre-university secondary education that now stands at 94, 8 percent coverage.

In the final clarifications of his visit, Fernandez González congratulated the faculty members for their commitment and willingness to increase their results, ensuring that not only are the conditions for the beginning of classes created, but that this will be a superior academic year.

The University of Holguin, with half a century of experience in Higher Education, now has eight faculties with 47 careers, 19 master's programs, 10 doctorates, nine specialties and seven study centers for an enrollment of around 20,000 undergraduate students and the postgraduate.
