buenaventura7"At the end of December 2001, when it was decided that the Open Tribune of the Revolution would take place here at the beginning of the year in the Central Square, the workers of the bakery, which is located at the square entrance, mobilize to paint and perform other decorative actions and is when the idea arises to realize a sculptural relief of Che.

"In our enterprise there was a good team at the maintenance workshop, a brigade that, in addition to repairing the faults and perform maintenance in the factories, workers were always innovating. We all conceived the idea, decided to use a steel sheet and someone said that we had to find a painter to do the sketch.

With pride, Ramón Rodríguez Galindo, at that time director of the Food Production and Distribution Enterprise of this municipality of Calixto García, remembers the assembly by his workers of a sculptural relief erected to the Heroic Guerrilla at the front of the Buenaventura bakery. Artistic work inaugurated on January 12, 2002, the day on which the Open Tribune of the Revolution took place.

"When we had everything, the idea and the material to be used, we talked to Andres Franco, the best known painter in Buenaventura, and accepted immediately; so everything came out, since then this is Che who looks at the Calixteños "

For fifteen years everyone who crosses our main square has to look and feel attracted by the imposing look of Che. That face that invites to the reflection, that calls to the daily combat, that inspires and illuminates.

Until then, children, pioneers, and young people come to develop patriotic activities at any time of the year. This October 9th, 50th anniversary of his fall in combat, the homage will be special, as special for Cubans is still the man who continues to enlighten us and guide the way.
