siembra arboles1With silvicultural plantations in different areas dedicated to the recovery of forest heritage, the inhabitants of the municipality of Calixto García, celebrated on June 21, Day of the tree and the forestry worker, date that marks the beginning of the rainiest stage of the year in Cuba.

The protagonists in these environmental tasks were the residents of the community of Las Casimbas, who moved to the Basic Unit of Agricultural Production (UBPC) Calixto García, and contribute to the planting of timber and fruit trees, a task where they were present prominently the students of the Primary School "José Antonio Echeverría Bianchi" of Cañada Larga.

"We like to touch the wet earth with our hands when we sow the little plants, for when they are big they give us shadows, because it is very hot and sunny", said the children while they placed, with a vision of the future, the postures in the furrow.

As part of the activities for the Day of the tree and the forestry worker, Ángel Rodríguez, Chief of the State Forestry Service in the municipality of Calixto García, offered talks with children and adults in which he pointed out "The recovery of our green areas, is always an alternative to mitigate climate change and work for present and future generations "

The municipality of Calixto García, arrived at June 21, Day of the tree and the forestry worker with a forest index higher than that of past stages, obtaining 97 percent in the Silvicultural Unit of the Crossroads of Maceo and not reporting damages due to fires in forest heritage during the last three years.
