With a substantial increase in the rate of forest, the municipality of Calixto García in Holguin up to June 5, World Environment Day, a day in which initiatives are implemented to preserve the world we live in.
The inhabitants of the municipality of Calixto García manage to plant more than 60 hectares of timber and fruit trees, benefiting the hydroregulating strips of streams, rivers, dams, micro-dams and other special areas in the preservation of the environment.
"We have 92 forestry projects in peasant farms and 7 state farms in the Silvicultural Unit of Cruce de Maceo. For them our recognition for their contributions to the reforestation in a day like this, "said Angel Rodriguez Garcia, Chief of State Forestry Service in the territory.
On June 5, World Environment Day, the Ranger Corps is also recognized in the municipality of Calixto García, after adding more than three years without reporting forest fires, despite the adverse conditions that generate prolonged periods of drought.
"We are happy to preserve the forest patrimony of El Martillo, Dovales, Las Calabazas, La 22 and Buenaventura from the fires. We have to continue perfecting methods to avoid indiscriminate felling or other environmental damage because that is and will always be our responsibility towards humanity, "said Fidel Pupo Mendoza, who has been part of the municipality's Forestry Corps for several years.
The municipality of Calixto García is distinguished in the forestry activity of Holguín province with the largest planted areas of precious woods, among which are cedar and mahogany.
World Environment Day was instituted in 1972 by the General Assembly of the United Nations, as a space to promote sustainable development and take action to reduce global warming and the deterioration of the ozone layer, among other environmental problems.
