Former leaders of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and their followers today shared experiences of the work leading this youth organization in the municipality of Calixto García.
Manuel Chacón Díaz, the first to assume the leadership of the UJC in the territory, signified the youth leadership that characterized the militancy in tasks prioritized at that time, such as the sugar harvest and the support to constructive work of some of the gastronomic and commercial centers of the village of Buenaventura where the youth contribution was decisive to promote these facilities.
Elvis Rodríguez Rodríguez recalled anecdotes of his work as an ideological staff member of the youth organization and shared experiences of work that marked guidelines for his professional development: "The work of youth marked me, I was in charge of that responsibility since 1986 and until 1989, a lot of work, learning, surpassing me and giving the best of me to fulfill the position that later served me to assume other responsibilities in the Federation of Cuban Women and later in front of the Government.
"Young people have that optimism and desire to do and I think that the relief is safe because those who are directing youth today can not be like yesterday, ideals, commitment and convictions always be the ones that guide the organization that grows every day before the challenges of today," she added.
For Ada Iris Velázquez Cruz, a leader in the Labor Directorate and Member of the Municipal Committee of the UJC, youth militancy has been essential in her training as a Social Worker and a leader in her work group.
"Youth has given me a lot in my professional preparation, growing up in front of obstacles and constantly improving myself. When I assumed this task in my workplace I always kept the idea of motivating young people, that they became the driving force of this institution and I am happy because today our work is recognized and the challenge is to be young people of these times without Never forget the history and tradition of an entire people. "
