The municipality of Calixto García, from Holguin, started the polio vaccination campaign throughout the country, an infectious disease caused by a virus that attacks the spinal cord and causes muscle atrophy and paralysis.
This campaign in its 57th edition will be carried out through medical offices and will benefit children between the ages of one month of birth up to two years, 11 months and 29 days.
The first stage is from Monday until March 3 and the second from April 23 to 28 that will include children vaccinated in the first stage and those of nine years, up to nine years, 11 months and 29 days.
Nivia Gómez Martínez, in charge of the vaccination of the Buenaventura polyclinic, said that this vaccination is a guarantee of health for the infants and is part of the priorities of the health sector in Cuba to prevent this pathology that affects mainly the nervous system and the contra especially children under 5 years old.
About the start Monday of the administration of the two droplets orally in the health area of Buenaventura, said that "a meticulous work was carried out by getting vaccinated many of the beneficiaries through the medical offices we serve, activity that we will continue throughout the week.
He added: "Infants who could not receive the two droplets orally in the corresponding stages will have the possibility of receiving it in a recuperative stage, however the family is recommended to go to their doctor's office to find more information".
He noted that to receive this vaccination should avoid eating half an hour before and after the supply of it and added as contraindications fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
