Sowing life is the maxim that opened the Reforestation Week, as an initiative promoted by the State Forest Service of the municipality of Calixto Garcia, in favor of increasing forest areas.

The opening of this day, in favor of a greener planet, coincided with the National Culture Day and had as a preamble the planting of trees in the hydro-regulating strip of the Buenaventura river.

To this initiative of the planting of trees incorporated some neighbors of the community bordering to the stream, that they saw with good eyes the proposal of replanting fallen trees to avoid the interruptions of the electrical service.

The Master in Sciences Leandro Góngora Ramírez, head of the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians in the province of Holguín, invited to the activities of this day considered the initiative positive and emphasized that his organization promotes projects in which agricultural development is in harmony with the environment.

The planting of trees continued in plenary where the speech of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, made at the Rio Summit, served as an argument to continue developing awareness of the importance of increasing the green mass of the planet from the actions for development of the wooded areas with the participation of workers, children and young people.

Ángel Rodríguez García, head of the State Forest Service in this territory, explained that the initiative aims to encourage compliance with massive reforestation plans as part of the recovery from damage to the forest at the time of Hurricane Irma.

The initiative promotes the recognition of the legacy of the Commander in Chief, so it was agreed to develop a colloquium on the thinking of Martí and Fidel from his environmental conceptions in November, the anniversary of his disappearance.

A donation of handicrafts, made from vegetable fibers, made the workers of the State Forest Service to the infant circle Los Zapaticos de Rosa, as part of the environmental education of the new generations.
