senen silvaWith no time for farewell, Senen Silva left, but he left us his impressions, loaded with rich memories always alongside the Revolution and Fidel Castro.

He faced a childhood in the conditions of a humble family that educated him in honest work as the only alternative to earn a living.

In the struggle for subsistence acquired skills and as a teenager was battling with the turbulent waters of the river Cauto to accompany the passage of herds of cattle without loss of animals.

But his skill and courage allowed him, in time of gigantic floods, to carry with great skill, from one side to the other of the river, churns of milk in exchange for few coins, and he grew brave and robust,  a mixture of good Creole.

But the cautero, as many identified him, grew with an athlete's physique and strong spirit, which allowed him with only 27 years to cross the raging waters of the river La Rioja and return to good shelter to Commander Fidel Castro and the crew of his amphibian car when the lash of Cyclone Flora, in 1963, deed that earned him the qualification of The man who saved Fidel.

The last time we saw him, he was crestfallen, but very eloquent and honest in his testimonies, surprised by the French Press Agency chamber, while performing his usual tasks of the small orchard, but he looked strong and vigorous despite the passage of time.

Senén Silva Cabrera left, at 86, strong as a jiquí tree, attached to the work of the field that became a distraction during the days of retirement, surrounded by his neighbors and relatives, people who admire him for his merits and his brave deed.

Now he rests in eternity, but he has left us with his diligently work, the ability to defy the danger and the memories of a lifeguard to Fidel.
