Agriculture recovery after the passage of Hurricane Irma by the Holguin municipality of Calixto Garcia called Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, President of the Council of Provincial Defense in Holguin, in exchange of work with the maximum political and governmental authorities of the territory.
"If in times of intense drought the Calixteños are champions in food production, now with the benefits reported by the rainfall that Irma left us, the result must be significant," added Torres Iríbar.
He insisted that we should intensify the planting of short-cycle products such as sweet potatoes, corn and vegetables. In this sense, he recognized the initiative of the Calixteños to constitute the Limbano Sánchez contingent to intensify this task.
However, he stressed: "It is not necessary to neglect those long-term items that are vital to the people's diet, such as the donkey banana and cassava, which characterize the Calixteño fields."
Torres Iríbar received detailed information about Irma's affectations to the municipality, which although discreet compared to other Holguin territories, require a cohesive multifactorial work and popular support for its timely solution.
Arlet Acosta, municipal delegate of Agriculture, reported that the greatest difficulties are concentrated in the loss of more than 220 tons of bananas and guava, nevertheless he said: "Work is in the recovery of the plantations and the collection of these products for sale and delivery to the industry. "
Carlos Cuba, Municipal Director of Housing, said that more than 650 homes are reported with some type of affectation and said: "We have begun visits to the victims with the support of different local organizations to find a solution to each of these properties ".
Ronny Perez Rojas, Director of Education, speaks out that the schools of the municipality resumed their classes as planned without serious damage, and the intense work of linemen and workers was recognized to promptly restore the electric service.
In relation to the epidemiological hygienic table, now in a stable way, the Director of Public Health Yadira Diego said that work is being done on environmental sanitation and vector control to prevent the proliferation of vectors. The systematic check to the quality of the water also stands out among the actions that are needed here so that after Irma do not originate diseases.
In the meantime, Torres Iríbar learned about the work of Calixteños merchants in order to guarantee a greater diversity of options at differentiated prices, especially in the areas affected by the electricity service.
Torres Iríbar congratulated the Calixteños for the intense work after the passage of Irma and said: "I am sure that now they are more strengthened to face phenomena of this nature".
