Cenen Silva Cabrera, the man who rescued Fidel Castro during a travel through flooded areas of the Cuban Eastern, caused by Flora hurricane, received special recognition at the provincial event held in Buenaventura, for the 55th anniversary of the Civil Defense.
In 1963, the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution traveled the eastern territories flooded by Hurricane Flora, and when he tried to cross the flooded La Rioja river, he lost control of the amphibious vehicle, then Cenen Silva offered aid to Fidel.
About those facts and what means the recognition he received from prominent representatives of the Civil Defense in the province of Holguín, Cenen, said with the humility that characterizes him.
"For me this homage has been a very heartfelt reminder because to have helped Fidel in the situation that he was, was and is a pride for me. I believe that Fidel has been the greatest man, as revolutionary and communist, the greatest thing that could have happened to me in life, and one of the deepest feelings, is the one I have for him. Commander in chief."
The municipality of Calixto García, for the significant contributions to the fulfillment of measures for the care of life and resources in extreme conditions, was chosen for the provincial commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the Civil Defense. Recognition achieved by the contribution of the Defense zone of Monte Alto, the municipal Red Cross, Education, Commerce and Gastronomy Company, forest rangers and Public Health.
Meanwhile, the founder of the Civil Defense, Alfonso Rodriguez Batista of Sabanazo, Wilmer Torres Ochoa, head of the Municipal Civil Defense Organ and Yunior Oria Yero, Member of the Local Administration Council, were also recognized at the provincial event for the anniversary 55 of the Civil Defense carried out in Buenaventura.

The municipality of Calixto Garcia became a dignified provincial headquarters for the 55th anniversary of the foundation of Civil Defense, this July 31 organization founded by the Revolution to implement systems of measures for the protection of lives and resources against risks of any kind .
