This First of May Fidel Castro will multiply once more in the cuban people. He will be in every stage, every square, every Cuban who will parade to continue cultivating the dignity and firmness that he instilled in us.
Fidel is Cuba. From his youth he fought not to let José Martí’s ideas die. From Moncada garrison’ attack Fidel is the Cuban people, the same people who continues to emancipate their ideas and who is determined to follow his example in the great battles.
In the proximity of that glorious date, the International Workers' Day, we evoke him, thinking he is still present in the crowd, in the schools, in the streets, in the workers who will fill the squares this first of May.
He is in the best virtues of every one of us, because he taught us to be faithful and loyal to the principles we stand for. His presence and imprint will continue to accompany us in every celebration, in every task, and his ideas, from his profoundly humanist vision, will continue alive.
Our undefeated Commander always appreciated unity as the greatest strength of the people, and this was the principle defended with great force by General of the Army Raul Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, during his speech during the plenary session Of the V Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), on January 25, 2017.
"The unity and political, economic, social and cultural integration of Latin America and the Caribbean constitutes ... a need to successfully meet the challenges presented to us as a region".
And that is what the Cuban people, the same heroic people who have made the most powerful empire of the earth respect and crush against a wall of dignity that will never be betrayed, because there is a lot of blood shed in defense of these principles. For this and a thousand more reasons we have the right to say that Cuba will continue to demonstrate that our strength is unity.
